About Female Nudes
In Graduate School at the University of Wisconsin, I began to realize there was a big difference between male artists and female artists.
Art photography was my major. my major professor often invited well known photographers to visit to talk about their work.
All male photographers. One fellow from NYC, brought along his recently published photo book starring his mother, nude from the waste up, cooking.
(I don’t recall his name (his work was not noteworthy), he was from NYC.
Lucas Samaras was a well known photographer who also came to talk about his work, also from New York City.
After speaking, he wanted to see some of our photographs. After he saw mine, he said, “These are wonderful! Thank you for
the ideas that I see here—I will take some of your ideas home. You are very talented” His ego was huge I remember thinking.
Many years went by and eventually I got around to wanting to photograph nudes.
